The area is small, sessions are quick, and because underarm hair is typically dark and coarse, it responds beautifully to laser energy. If you’re tired of daily shaving, razor burn, ingrown hairs, and the dark shadow that lingers even after a fresh shave, this is the treatment that ends the cycle for good. Here’s exactly how it works at Sanjiva, what it costs, why a full series matters, and why our patients describe it as virtually painless.
How underarm laser hair removal works
Laser hair removal works by sending a precise beam of light into the hair follicle. The pigment in the hair absorbs that light, which converts to heat and disables the follicle’s ability to grow new hair — all while a cooling system protects the surrounding skin. Because underarm hair is usually dark and coarse, it absorbs laser energy efficiently, which is part of why the underarms respond so well.
At Sanjiva, underarm laser hair removal is performed with our BARE HR by Sciton platform, by licensed laser professionals in a physician-owned, MD-supervised practice. The result, over a series of treatments, is a dramatic, lasting reduction in underarm hair — with what does return growing back finer, sparser, and lighter.
How much does underarm laser hair removal cost in Dallas?
At Sanjiva, underarm laser hair removal is $150 per session, with 10% off when you purchase a package of 10 sessions. Underarms are a small, fast area — treatment usually takes only a few minutes — which keeps the per-session cost low compared with larger areas.
| Per session | $150 |
| Package of 10 (10% off) | $1,350 ($135/session) |
It’s worth doing the lifetime math: a lifetime of razors, shaving cream, and the occasional wax adds up to far more than a one-time series — and none of those ever actually solve the problem. Laser is the investment that ends the routine. Ask about financing if you’d like to spread a package over manageable payments.
Why you need a full series — and why we recommend a package of 10
This is the single most important thing to understand about laser hair removal, and it’s where honest expectations matter. Laser only works on hair that is in its active growth phase (called anagen) — that’s the only stage when the follicle is connected to enough pigment for the laser to disable it. The catch: at any given moment, only about 10–20% of your hair is in that active phase. The rest is resting or shedding, and invisible to the laser that day.
That’s why a single session — or even three — can’t finish the job. Each session catches a different batch of follicles as they cycle into the active phase. Space the sessions correctly and, over a full series, you progressively treat nearly all of the follicles. This is exactly the same principle we explain in our guide to Brazilian laser hair removal — the science of the hair-growth cycle is universal.
The underarms have one extra wrinkle: underarm hair is hormonally influenced, which tends to make it coarser and more stubborn than, say, leg hair — and means it can keep being stimulated over time. That’s why, for the most complete and lasting result, we recommend a series of around 10 sessions. Many patients see significant thinning much earlier — often within the first few sessions, as the photo above shows after six — but completing the full series is what delivers the durable, set-it-and-forget-it reduction most people are after. The 10-session package simply makes the recommended course more affordable.
“Patients sometimes expect to be done in three sessions, and I’d rather be upfront: because hair grows in cycles, a full series is what gives you that lasting, smooth result. The good news is the underarms respond quickly — most people are thrilled well before the final session.”
Is underarm laser hair removal painful?
It’s one of the first questions everyone asks — and the honest answer is that most patients find it virtually painless. This comes down to how the skin is cooled, and it’s where our platform stands out. Our BARE HR by Sciton uses built-in gel-based contact cooling — a chilled sapphire applicator glides over the skin with a cooling gel, keeping the surface continuously cool before, during, and after each pulse. That’s a more comfortable approach than older systems that rely on a quick burst of cryogen spray timed to each pulse: the spray cools only for a split second and can feel like a cold sting, whereas continuous gel-based contact cooling keeps the skin at a steady, comfortable temperature throughout the treatment. The result is a sensation most patients describe as a brief, warm snap rather than anything sharp.
The underarm area is sensitive, but treatment is fast — just a few minutes — and far more comfortable than waxing, which pulls hair from the root, or the daily irritation of shaving. If you’ve been putting this off because you’re worried about pain, this is a very tolerable treatment.
Safe for all skin tones
Not all lasers are created equal, and this matters a great deal if you have a deeper skin tone. Older or single-wavelength systems weren’t safe for darker skin, because they couldn’t tell the difference between pigment in the hair and pigment in the skin. Modern platforms solve this: by selecting the right wavelength and settings for your skin type, an experienced provider can treat all skin tones safely and effectively. At Sanjiva, your treatment settings are tailored to you, under medical oversight — which is exactly why provider training and the right technology matter more than a bargain price.
What to expect
- Before: Shave the area the day before (don’t wax or pluck — the laser needs the follicle intact). Avoid sun and self-tanner on the area beforehand.
- During: A quick few minutes per underarm, with cooling for comfort. No needles, no numbing required for most.
- After: Mild redness or warmth, like a light sunburn, that settles within hours to a day. You can return to normal activities right away; avoid heavy sweating, hot showers, and sun for ~24 hours.
- Spacing: Sessions are spaced several weeks apart to match the hair-growth cycle — your provider sets your schedule.
- Results: Progressive thinning across the series, with regrowth becoming finer and sparser. Occasional maintenance keeps you smooth long-term.

Frequently asked questions
How much does underarm laser hair removal cost in Dallas?
At Sanjiva, underarm laser hair removal is $150 per session, with 10% off a package of 10 sessions ($1,350 total, or $135 per session). Underarms are a small, quick area, which keeps the per-session cost low.
How many sessions will I need?
We recommend a series of around 10 sessions for the most complete, lasting result. This is because laser only works on hair in its active growth phase, and only 10–20% of follicles are in that phase at any time — so multiple sessions are needed to treat them all. Underarm hair is also hormonally influenced and tends to be stubborn. Most patients see significant thinning well before the final session.
Is it painful?
Most patients find it virtually painless. Our BARE HR by Sciton uses gel-based contact cooling — a chilled sapphire applicator with cooling gel that keeps the skin continuously cool, which is more comfortable than older cryogen-spray systems. It feels like a quick, warm snap. Treatment takes only a few minutes per underarm and is far more comfortable than waxing.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser produces permanent hair reduction — a significant, long-lasting decrease in hair, with regrowth that’s finer and sparser. Most patients maintain results with occasional touch-ups over time. This is how the FDA-cleared technology is accurately described.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
Yes — with the right laser, wavelength, and settings. Modern platforms can safely treat all skin tones when used by a trained provider who tailors the treatment to your skin type, which is exactly how we approach it under medical oversight.
How should I prepare?
Shave the area the day before (don’t wax or pluck), and avoid sun exposure and self-tanner on the underarms beforehand. Your provider will give you full pre- and post-care instructions.
